Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Shop Where You Own, Own Where You Shop. These terms govern how members, merchants, developers and institutional partners use the Stratum platform to turn everyday spending into inclusive ownership.

1. About the platform

Stratum Fintech provides technology that links eligible purchases at participating merchants to members, and routes a share of value into regulated ownership structures. Stratum is a technology provider: payments are processed by our regulated payment partner (Ozow) and assets are held by regulated custodians, not by Stratum.

2. Who may use it

Members must be registered members of the membership body, aged 18 or older. Merchants, developers and institutions must apply and be approved by Stratum. Registration alone grants no access; Stratum may decline or revoke access at its discretion.

3. Shared wealth allocations

  • Allocations shown on the platform are estimates until confirmed by the merchant, settled and reconciled.
  • An estimate is not an entitlement, a guarantee of returns, or a deposit.
  • Refunded or reversed purchases reverse the related allocation.
  • The value of ownership investments can go down as well as up. Past performance is not a guide to the future.

4. No financial advice

Nothing on the platform is financial advice as defined in the FAIS Act. Members should consult an authorised financial services provider before making investment decisions.

5. Merchant obligations

Merchants must provide accurate business information, honour the agreed contribution rates, deliver goods and services as described, and handle refunds through the platform so allocations stay correct.

6. Developer and API use

API keys are confidential, must be kept on your server, and may not be shared. Sandbox environments use test money only. Live processing is enabled only after partner, bank and regulatory approval.

7. Acceptable use

You may not use the platform for fraud, money laundering, unlawful goods, or to interfere with its security. We may suspend accounts to protect members.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, including the Consumer Protection Act, Stratum is not liable for indirect losses or for failures of banks, payment partners or third-party services outside its control.

9. Complaints

Send complaints to support@stratumfintech.co.za. We aim to respond within 5 business days.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
